Lopemede Farm is located in Thame Oxfordshire with land also extending through into Buckinghamshire at our other farm Reddings Farm in Long Crendon. We farm 200ha of permanent pasture with land extending down to the River Thame.
We run our multigeneration farming business on regenerative farming principles whereby we are restoring the natural capital of the land, planting trees, new hedges, creating new ponds and restoring ghost ponds, that were filled in during the 1950s.
We were the first farm in Buckinghamshire to be registered on the national register for a Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) site. Whereby we have restored the wetland habitat of our river fields, by creating scrapes for red list bird species like lapwings and curlews and we have created scrub and restored the historic wildflower meadows which sadly have been lost from our landscape.
As well as regenerating the land we are helping to regenerate our communities connection with food, farming and nature by leveraging the natural capital created via numerous businesses that are flourishing on our land;
- Renboga – An art school run on forest school principals.
- Sonder Experience – A Sauna and cold plunge immersed in nature
- Theatre on the Farm – A rural unique Professional theatre venue immersed and imspired by Nature.
- Firelight – Yoga, Wellness & feel good events.
We also have an 18th Century restored barn on the farm, whereby we have a number of weekly classes occurring for the benefit of the local community, with weekly Qi Gong, Choir, Yoga Soundbath and much more.
Our regenerative principles also extend to how the farm is heated, with all heating supplied by a biomass boiler using sustainable sourced wood, and electricity provided by a 50km solar mounted system on our cattle sheds.
In 2023 we were fortunate to benefit form Innovate UK Funding, to investigate a project entitled Roots & Rhythms, exploring nature restoration and nature connection; more information can be found at Introducing Roots and Rhythms:
Following the completion of the project we now have Dr Joe Smith Joe Smith, Ph.D. | Panthera sitting in our company meetings. Whenever we are looking to make decision that impacts on our land, Joe is the voice of nature for those species that don’t have a voice. This is to ensure that we make decisions that benefits all species not just humans. This shift of mindset from ego to eco centric has been fundamental in how we are shifting our relationship with our land for the benefit of all species and helping to address the biodiversity and climate crisis we are undoubtably in.
Our team

Eddie Rixon
Eddie Rixon is a 4th generation farmer and is helping to regenerate the land for the benefit of all species. Eddie has a diverse background having worked in all aspects of the food industry, from a sales and marketing role at Kellogg’s, to buying at Waitrose to running an independent publishing consulting and distribution business he set up after working at WHSmith as a magazine buyer. It was his late grandfather Ronald Rixon, that encouraged Eddie to explore working beyond the farm, whilst he was studying Agriculture at the University of Reading. He could see that farming would not offer Eddie the same living that he had enjoyed, and therefore could see that Eddie would need to equip himself with transferable skills in order to ensure that when we returned to the farm he would be more resistant to the challenges that farming is continuing to have to deal with. Eddie has a real passion or arboriculture, and particular loves Oaks trees, having planted over 50 different species across the farm. He is also a lover of sport, especially rugby, having played for his local club Chinnor RFC for over 40 yrs. He has two daughters Verity and Penny who regularly attend Renboga based on the farm.

John Rixon
John Rixon ran Lopemede Farm with his wife Ellen Rixon and their son Eddie for many years, running the largest polled Pedigree Simmental suckler herd in Europe, selling heifers and bulls for breeding. This was until the herd sadly succumbed to TB in 2017, resulting in the sales of the herd. John also ran a highly successful family meat wholesaling business, running an abattoir in Long Crendon with his brother David and father Ronald, along with a chain of butcher’s shops from Long Crendon to High Wycombe.

Jeremy Hitchcox
Jeremy helps us out throughout the year, especially during peak harvest times, with helping with silaging, haying making and collecting straw from a nearby arable farm whereby we exchange our farm manure for straw.

Dr Joseph Smith
Is the voice of nature at Lopemede Farm. He is the voice for all of the species that don’t have a voice. He helps to ensure that when we make decisions we make them for the benefit of all species.

Dr Tolah Smith
Dr Tolah Smith is responsible for running the farm's market garden on a 1 acre plot at Lopemede. The market garden is run on permaculture princiapals and is designed using scared geometry.

Peter Fleming
Peter combines his agricultural experience with his media production background to help document Lopemede's journey in to biodiversity. Peter is often flying his drone or using his camera to capture some of the magical moments at Lopemede through the seasons. You can see his work at www.shootingstone.com He will also put his overalls on and help on the farm if needed too!
